Halfway Reflection

  1. At the beginning of this class, I had a little trouble keeping up with all of the work. However, over time I have gotten a lot better at keeping up with the work. One thing that I have done is set aside times throughout the week that I work on this class. It is sometimes hard to keep this schedule because there are so many things to do during the summer, but I am getting better at working during my scheduled times.
  2. Early in the semester, I had moments where I felt like giving up, and sometimes I did. There was one assignment where we had to interview five people and I got overwhelmed and decided that I would just take the zero. On another interview assignment I got stressed out about it again, but rather than just take a zero, I decided that I was going to do it. I ended up finishing it  and I felt great about myself.
  3. Tips:
    1. Look ahead in the semester for projects that require more time and effort to finish. I know if I had seen some assignments earlier, they would have been much easier.
    2. Set aside time to focus on just this class. It’s sometimes hard to have that kind of self-discipline, especially during the summer, but scheduling time or this class really helps out.
    3. Watch the lectures. I did not watch the lectures for the first couple of weeks of this class. Now that I’ve started watching them, some of the assignments are much clearer.

  1. Hi AJ!
I just typed out a response and then something happened, so if you get two, I apologize.
Anyway, I agree with everything you have said. My post is pretty similar to yours. I struggle with completing the assignments as well and your suggestion to carve out time is a good one. You are right, though, it is hard to do that during the summer with vacations and work and camps and stuff like that. I feel like I am always on the go with very little time for school.
I liked your suggestion for watching the lectures. I didn't think to post that as advice, but you are right, they should be watched. They are extremely helpful with the assignments. Plus they aren't bad. I like Dr. P. He isn't dry and boring like some. Good tips!

    Enjoy your summer!

  2. AJ,

I also highly recommend watching the lectures. They help a lot if you have questions about any of the assignments and they get you familiar with the material from which your assignments are coming from. It is important, I think, to be organized during this class, especially if you have other classes or a job that you have to take care of as well.

  3. Hi AJ,

I think you've given some great advice! I totally agree that it's important to watch the lectures. Sometimes I look at assignments and what needs to be done isn't clear until I watch the lectures. I also agree that it's really important to look at assignments beforehand to figure out what needs more time and effort. Overall, great advice!

  4. I definitely would say that I struggled most with keeping up with the assignments. No, they aren't hard but they do need your focus and the best thing to do is to not procrastinate. I feel like all of us can learn from this and move on to do much better in the second half of this class. Great tips for future students!
